After effects of Deepavali and what still needs to be done
Supreme court’s decision to ban crackers till November 1 and champions for “cracker free Deepavali” created a lot of awareness amongst the people of Delhi NCR. Even after this much efforts, there are those who still fired crackers and according to the report from Central Pollution Control Board [CPCB] on Friday.the air quality plummeted to “severe”, the worst rating on the Air Quality. Though the good news is, according to CPCB the concentration of pollutants in was was significantly lower than the last year, which indeed is a good sign, though not up to the mark yes, it is everyone’s efforts which brought this Pledge to save our tomorrow this far.
According to the report of the Air Quality Index on Deepavali day in 2015 was 327, in 2016 it was 436 and 319 this year. A concentration of various pollutants like sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, particulates matters 10 and 2.5- saw a fall this year.
Banning of crackers was only an initiative, controlling pollution levels is possible only when everyone puts their efforts in this because banning of crackers and campaign for” cracker free Deepavali” alone will do no good to the environment. It is our duty as responsible citizens of India to create and spread awareness of adverse effects of the firecracker, tell everyone about 4R’s and 3R’s Norma i.e. “Reduction” “Reuse” “Recycling” “Recovery” and ” Reduce” “Recycle” “Re-use” respectively and safeguard our environment.
Even though Delhi was covered in smog this year too after Deepavali but it is far better than last year and air quality also managed to be Okay, it is still not good for people suffering from asthma, other respiratory diseases. Even it is still not safe for our children and elderly ones. Firecrackers are one of the most significant factors in increasing the pollution levels in and around the state. If we want to leave a better future for our young ones, I think only authorities banning everything will do no good until the ban on firecrackers are “self-imposed”. If we ourselves will ban this, take a pledge to not anything through which air quality gets depleted, then only we can provide and leave our new generation with a better future to live in, to breathe in.
